Example First Music Video and Cover

The music video I picked to analyse was Billie Eilish's Ocean Eyes. This was her first video back in 2016 and she has become extremely popular since. Here is a link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=viimfQi_pUw

The video came out when she was 13 years old and we can see that she is extremely young. We can tell this in the video as she has barely and makeup and is quite natural looking. The video is quite simple and focuses on the artist the whole time (as she would have been a new artist it makes sense). This introduces her to us as an artist and shows the style she is trying to portray.

Her hair is wet and she is in a smoky room. It gives off an alternative image even though it is still pop (a slightly different approach to your average pop video. The way she looks at the camera can often be daunting and she also appears to have something on her hands which again gives off an alternative approach (she is not completely innocent even though she seems it). The purple mist shows us that it is not a bright and happy genre of pop it is more mellow.

The single cover reflects a similar image. She looks very similar to in the music video however her hair is no longer wet and her makeup is in place (looks very natural and young). It is quite simple and just shows the artist. The artists name and title of the album are in a simple white font which doesn't take or distract from the image. The black and white colour of the album creates a sense of thoughtfulness and reflection. It also tells us as an audience that her music is mellow and downbeat.

She is not looking directly into the camera which suggests a lack of confidence however she is not looking down which shows us she is determined or in sight of something. This may also suggest deep thinking or that she is in her head. The album is clearly simple for a reason as the new artist is being displayed in an authentic way (not the typical 'pop star image').  She seems to also look matured for her age as at the time she was extremely young. The industry was not used to seeing artists this young portray a deep and thoughtful image which captured peoples attention.
