Analysing a music video in the genre of my groups song

The song my group has chosen (Grayson by Cameron Lane) is an alternative pop song. This is because it is not full on classic pop as it has a more acoustic and different feel to it. I am going to be looking at a song in the same genre (Holly Humberstone - Walls are Way to Thin) and its music video.

The colour themes of the music video are quite dark. The clothing the artist is wearing is dark as well as the surroundings (she is in an air vent). The camera rotates as it zooms creating a cool visual effect as we get closer to the artist. Even though the song seems upbeat the lyrics are not and therefore the surroundings reflect that feel. There are lots of cool camera angles and pans that keep the visuals interesting despite the fact there is no narrative and the set does not change. There is only one character in the video which is the main artist.

The whole video is solely based on her as she is a solo artist. The music video represents how the artist felt stuck in a space (had anxiety). The claustrophobic setting of an air vent represents this as an image well (she is trying to crawl out of it but can't find the end). There are film filters on some of the shots of the video which again makes it more visually interesting. There are also lots of flashing lights (could resemble the panic the artist was feeling or anxiety when writing the song). In one part of the video she looks back at the light as if she is scared of it helping to add to the point of the song. She gets out of the vent towards the end and there is dust particles flying around which makes the shot seem calmer (there is more space in the room). This matches the music as it goes into a calmer chorus only featuring guitar (the intense synths have stopped at this point).

A fire then starts in the background reflecting the return of anxiety or fear as the music gains its beat again and the artist hurries on as if running away from something. Overall the video is meant to resemble the artist running away from problems in life and being afraid.
