Camera Workshop

Today we had a workshop with one of our teachers recapping the camera stuff and talking more into depth about different lenses for the black magic camera. We were shown the black magic monitor and were told it is a lot better quality than using the tv as it shows a more accurate representation of the shot and lighting.

We were introduced to shutter (degrees). High shutter makes it blurrier and low shutter makes it more clear. The shutter we shoot at is 25 frames per second as in England it is down to our electricity (in America they use 30 frames per second). Low shutter angles make the camera clear and show no blurry m
ovement which looks unnatural and quite sharp and noisy (good for metal music videos). High shutter angles and more blurry and create a dreamy effect and looks more romanticised. The camera all together goes up to 60 frames per second. 80 is the normal shutter speed.

We looked at different lenses that can be used on the camera. There were two main types of lenses : prime lenses and zoom lenses. Prime lenses do not zoom and come in several different depths, however they are better quality lenses that produce a clearer image when used correctly. In order to focus the camera when using one of these lenses you have to use a tape measure and measure how far away the focus plane is from the person or thing you want to focus. You then use the lense to adjust it to that distance.

Zoom lenses are around £500 and prime lenses are about £1000 and above. Pictor cameras both zoom whilst incorporating good quality lenses.

We practiced positioning on camera as we were told depth of field is crucial for a good shot in a music video.
