Shoot Day Evaluation

Today we had our shoot day and shot our music video.

We started off the day at around 8:30 in the morning and started moving all our props into the main studio. We brought lots of props including pillows, duvets, lamps, radios, shoes, clothes, posters etc. We played out the floor and put up the walls using clamps, weights and sticks. We then moved the bunked in and started putting the props into set as well as making sure our artists were dressed as we wanted.

We were all really happy with the first bunkbed set and it was exactly what we envisioned with the projections behind. Once we were happy with the set we moved on to shooting the first scenes. We did a wide shot as well as lots of shots of each of the musicians. We used the track in order to film the intro which we did not originally plan however we still managed to get Luke to use a pad while it tracked. We all switched around jobs throughout the day (I started off moving the wall in once the track had moved past, Luiza started on the clapper iPad, Catherine was on camera and fed helped move the track). Im really happy with the shots we got in this scene and think it was my favourite set of the day.

I tried using the clapper board and also moving the track as we switched jobs to make sure we all had a go.  We also used the genie in order to get high birds eye view shots which we really liked. In order to get a birds eye view shot we used the genie which meant we could get moving shots that went upwards and down of the artist in the bunkbed. These were some of my favourite shots of the day!!!

After that we ended up setting up another set. We moved the bunkbed slightly to the side and got a cool angle of the bunk bed. The next set up was the bunk bed completely on its side. For this shot we used the tracks again. I pushed the track along as the shot was being taken as we kept going around the set as the artists lip-synced. This created a really cool shot and the set was relatively easy to set up as it was just the bunk beds and cool lighting.

After doing this shot we broke up for lunch and a little break to get ready for the next scene. We decided to scrap the topsi turvy set and just move straight on to the doors as we felt we had enough footage and we had little time that we would rather spend on the door section than the topsi turvy room. Therefore we set up the door and clamped it down so it was sideways. We made the projections also sideways either side of the door and shot some narrative shots. We did not plan the narrative shots but thought it could be fun to add then in. We directed the actors into doing some movement corresponding with each other around the doors. After that we shot just some shots of blue with blue lighting against the door lypsyncing which also were not planned but last minute thought we may as well as we had some time and were not longer doing one of our sets. These shots actually turned out very well and the lighting could add a cool image to the video.

Here is a video of Catherine filming this shot and a video of the monitor :

After this shot was filmed it was a wrap and we finished filming !!! It felt so good to see our planning come into action and I am so happy with the footage we got ! We took down the set and packed it away as well as packed all our props up ready to take back home. Overall I think the day went really well and despite changing a few shots and incorporating some new ideas we originally planned I think we worked well as a team in collaborating and making sure everything came out as well all wanted.
